Representative Calvert Joins Bill to Pay Military During Government Shutdown

President Trump is also looking into reallocations to ensure troops are paid.

Representative Ken Calvert of California, the chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, came out in support of legislation to continue paying military members while the government is shut down.

Though the legislation was introduced by Representative Jen Kiggans of Virginia, this move from an important committee official represents a departure from the messaging of other House leaders, who are trying to include military salaries as part of their “clean” stopgap spending bill as additional pressure against the minority party’s blockade.

“I voted to pay our troops, our TSA agents, and federal law enforcement,” Congressman Calvert posted on social media. “If you see these heroes, thank them for the job they’re doing during this shutdown and amidst uncertainty with their pay. I will continue to support them.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for representatives in Congress as they consider ways to fund the military and federal law enforcement.
  • For members of the Senate as they continue to deliberate and vote on the continuing resolution to fund the government.
